Healthcare buyouts in Asia hit a new high in 2017, with deal values from 61 transactions reaching USD7.2 bn, a record since 2001.

Chinese private equity funds have become active in large, outbound M&A deals spanning Australia, the United States and Europe. Chinese private equity investors provided USD2.5 bn (35 percent) of disclosed deal values in Asia-Pacific in 2017.

The buyout value of China-domiciled private equity investors in 2017 reached USD4.8 bn, of which about half went into financing four cross-border deals. But the bulk of the 30 deals carried out by Chinese private equity funds last year were domestic deals.
