Briefing the media here, Matthew Bates, Senior Director, Research and Development at Abbott Diabetes Care, said India was the first country where the professional version of the glucose assessment tool was being launched. It helps monitor the glucose levels of persons with diabetes for 14 days, after which the data it has collected are downloaded by a reader.
The round sensor, slightly larger than a Rs10 coin, is water-resistant and disposable, and is attached to the upper arm of a patient by a self-adhesive pad. It negates the need for the usual finger prick test.
