One in ten affluent Chinese visitors to the US travel for medical treatment

9.5% of high-end Chinese travellers visiting the US in 2015 did so for medical tourism purposes, a survey of 623 travellers by media company i2i China (www.i2i-china.com) has found.

Almost half of these wealthy tourists spent more than USD3,000 on shopping while Stateside, suggesting that medical travel to the US is mainly the domain of the affluent.
Three-quarters were already planning their next trip to the US.
Aside from general tourism, other top motivations for travelling to the US included checking out universities and buying property.
Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas were the most popular destinations, with Seattle and Florida high on the list of locations to visit on future trips.
