Line Pay can currently be used at about 16,000 vendor sites including convenience stores. Line has set its sights on restaurants, karaoke, vending machines and other businesses.
Users can pay by presenting a bar code or QR code on their smartphone screen to the cashier. The service also lets friends on the chat app send money to each other for free.
