Tunstall and other UK firms eye elderly care in China

UK health care service providers and elderly care companies are seeking business opportunities in China to tap the rising demand for caretakers and elderly care homes, officials said yesterday.

“We’re seeking to match UK expertise and experience with the growing business opportunity in the elderly care industry in China,” said Seif Usher, assistant director of life sciences, health and social care at the British Consulate-General Shanghai.
Tunstall Healthcare, the UK technology healthcare management firm, is opening a showroom in Shanghai in the next few months to display its health monitoring facilities.
More than GBP2 bn of healthcare trade deals and collaborations were signed between Chinese and UK companies, universities and organisations during President Xi Jinping’s recent state visit to Britain.
The China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) has contracted the UK's International Hospital Group (IHG) to build a hospital in South China, in a partnership estimated at GBP204 mn.
And UK organisations Annie Barr, Glasgow Caledonian University and Kings College London are supporting the training of Chinese health professionals in Nanjing, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen as the Chinese government aims to train 150,000 doctors and 2 million nurses by 2020.
