Singapore's spending on healthcare to rise sharply in next 3-5 years

Singapore's Finance Minister expects government expenditure on healthcare to "rise quite sharply" in the next three to five years and beyond, predicting that by 2020 government spending will go up by "at least SGD3 billion".

"As medical technology improves, as our population ages, the demands will grow, and the need to provide for that will also grow," he said.

In this year's Budget, the Ministry of Health received SGD10 bn, up from SGD4 bn in 2010.
