Singapore's healthcare spending is expected to grow to SGD10.2 bn (USD7.8 bn) in 2018 and will overtake education expenditure in the next 10 years due to growth in the ageing population.

"By 2030, the total number of elderly will increase by about 450,000, to 900,000," said Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat. "We will have to build new healthcare capacity to meet the rising demand, and also invest in new medical technologies to improve care quality."
