Korean medical institutions investing more overseas

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute announced on March 23 that 125 Korean medical institutions entered 19 countries last year, while the numbers were 58 and 11 in 2010.

China accounted for 42 out of the 125 cases, followed by the United States (35), Southeast Asia (18), Mongolia (12), and the Middle East (5). In addition, 13 out of the 27 medical institution projects that were preparing to go abroad targeted China. Twenty-nine out of the 42 were about skin care and cosmetic surgery, but institutions in other fields including medical checkups, stem cell joint therapy, ob/gyn, and dentistry were planning to penetrate the Chinese market too.

In contrast, Korean medical institutions withdrew from overseas markets on 28 occasions last year, with those in China representing 15 of them.
