China's Ctrip medical tourism grows by 500 percent in 2016

According to a report released by China’s leading online travel marketplace, Ctrip, the Chinese medical tourism market grew to reach 500,000 outbound medical trips in 2016.

According to the report, medical tourism ranked as the fourth most interesting area of travel among Chinese tourists, and was the market segment with the highest level of growth.
Ctrip's medical tourism business grew 500% in 2016, having been launched in Sep-15. The company reported its average medical tourist customer spent RMB50,000 (USD7,194) per trip. The only type of trip with a higher reported average spending was polar tourism.
