Why medical tourists go to Dubai

Four medical specialities have taken a large number of medical tourists to Dubai in the last two years says Dr Laila Al Marzouqi of the Dubai Medical Tourism Project.

The figures from 26 private and public hospitals in Dubai show that the four key areas in 2015 and 2016 were orthopaedics (34%), dental (29%), eye surgery (18%) and IVF treatment.

According to Marzouqi, medical tourism from within the UAE and from other regions has brought in more than AED1 bn (USD171 mn) in revenues and is expected to grow at 13% a year for the next five years.
