Thailand’s MOPH urges education to solve health professional shortage

The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has established an agreement with the Prince of Songkla University (PSU) on the improvement in medical education to solve shortages of personnel in the rural areas, said the Permanent-Secretary. For example, Year 4-6 medical students will gain experience in community hospitals.

The MOPH Permanent-Secretary Narong Sahametapat, along with the executives of PSU participated in the signing ceremony of the medical education reform program. The reforms intends to create more medical professionals to service the rural areas in keep with the healthcare reform.
The MOPH Permanent-Secretary has said that the MOPH and the PSU have been working together for over 20 years to reform the healthcare system along with the developments in medical school education. The program will be extended to other hospitals of >90 beds.
