This is a paradox as public hospitals have long been overwhelmed by increasingly large numbers of patient visits.
Last year saw a number of private hospitals established in the city, however many of them are facing fewer-than-expected patient visits despite their modern medical equipment and facilities. Nguyen Tan Binh, director of the HCMC Health Department, said high fees might be a reason behind the situation. In addition, private hospitals lack human resources although some of them partner with public hospitals.
