Auckland health software firm Orion Health has revealed it has cut 177 jobs since Mar-18 as it seeks to stem its losses. Orion Health once rivalled Xero as one of the country's top technology successes and at its peak employed 1,200 staff in New Zealand and overseas.

Chief executive Iain McCrae said the company had been impacted by changes to Obamacare funding in the United States that had forced some of its customers there to retrench. Orion reported a loss of NZD40 mn (USD28 mn) in the year to Mar-18, up from a loss of NZD34 mn (USD24 mn) the previous year, with revenues down 14 per cent to NZD170 mn (USD120 mn).
