The Japanese company said it will invest $101 million to acquire a 16% stake in the holding company of the Columbia Asia group, the largest hospital operator in Asia serving middle-class patients.
Columbia Asia specializes in outpatient and simple hospital treatments, using an efficient IT-centered administrative system. The group owns 28 medical facilities in four countries, including India, which currently lacks medical facilities tailored for the middle class.
