Korea's act for overseas medical services

The Ministry of Health & Welfare announced that the Act on Overseas Medical Service & Support for Foreign Patient Attraction becomes effective on June 23, 2016. The purpose of the act is to help Korean medical institutions make inroads abroad and enhance the convenience, rights and interests of non-Korean patients receiving medical treatments in and out of Korea.

According to the act, medical advertisements in foreign languages are allowed at Korean airports, ports, duty-free shops and the like to the same end, while foreign patients can get remote preliminary and follow-up services from medical staff in Korea by means of information and communications technology.
In addition, excessive commissions are banned and medical institutions attracting such patients are legally obligated to have liability insurance.
