The hospitals will be run by a joint venture between Nihon Trim, an Osaka-based manufacturer of medical equipment and water filters, and a Chinese consulting firm, with the Japanese company holding a 40% stake. The venture will be capitalized at more than 300 million yen ($2.69 million). Financial institutions backed by the Japanese government could offer financing.
Mitsubishi Corp. and other major companies are considering contributing through such steps as developing meals for diets designed to prevent diabetes. The project will also involve a team of experts on lifestyle diseases, including Fukushima Medical University professor Masaaki Nakayama.
