India: Alarming CVD crisis and scarce health cover awareness

Despite noteworthy achievements in polio eradication, increase in life expectancy and maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination etc, India is facing a serious threat from the increasing Cardio Vascular Disease crisis associated with lifestyle changes.

India is the CVD capital of the world. Every minute 4 people are succumbing to the disease. According to the Registrar General of India, coronary heart disease was the cause of 32% of total adult deaths during the period 2010-2013. In fact the instance of heart disease has increased by 32%, in people less than 40 years age, as per WHO.
