80% of Indian doctors located in urban areas

Nearly 75% of dispensaries, 60% of hospitals and 80% of doctors are located in urban areas, serving only 28% of India, says a new report released by the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI).

The report pointed out that non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for nearly 60% of deaths in India annually. The country is estimated to lose USD4.58 trillion by 2030 due to them.
“India’s healthcare strategy requires a holistic approach and a critical evaluation of our existing systems,” said Shailesh Ayyangar, President, Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI).
