Hong Kong hospitals get USD150m booster

The government will pump HK$1.17 billion into the Hospital Authority in the next three years to implement proposals aimed at shortening waiting times and improving funding allocation to three hospital clusters.

This comes after a report of the Steering Committee on Review of Hospital Authority, chaired by Secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man, made 10 recommendations to help the authority - which received HK$49.87 billion this fiscal year - use resources better.

Of the HK$1.17 billion in the one- off funding, some HK$570 million will go into tackling the manpower shortage by re-employing retired doctors for two years, with HK$300 million earmarked for the training of doctors.
