Brazilian government to reduce healthcare spending to break budget deficit

Brazilian government will reduce the total cost of BRL 26 billion (more than USD 6.8 billion) in 2016 in order to resolve the issue of budget deficit. In healthcare sector, the government will reduce the disbursement of BRL 3.8 billion (USD 997) million.

To break the overall budget deficit, government has announced nine measures, which includes job cuts in the public sector, reduction in salaries of civil employees, reductions in funding to pace growth programme, suspension of tenders, reduction in discretionary (not fixed by law) spending, reduction of ministries and limited expenditure on smaller servers etc..

Minister of planning, budget and management expressed that the health budget will remain above the minimum amount considered by the constitution even after the reduction.
