Japan university to provide telemedicine facilities in India

Kyushu University, Japan has collaborated with Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) to provide telemedicine facilities in the field of surgical gastroenterology through video conferencing.

The Japan university's telemedicine development centre of Asia acknowledged Jipmer's telemedicine activities and invited Jipmer director S C Parija to attend the 9th Asia telemedicine symposium to be held on November 13 and 14 at Chungbuk National University in South Korea.

With the collaboration, the two institutions will share their technical expertise and latest medical advancements through seminars, workshop, live surgeries and continuing medical education programmes.

The Union ministry of health and family welfare and Indian space research organization (Isro) designated Jipmer as regional resource centre for telemedicine for South India as early as 2013 to extend medical care to people who cannot afford treatment due to their inability to travel.
