Alibaba could leapfrog to the forefront of digital health in China

Alibaba affiliate Alipay has announced many Chinese hospitals now accept Alipay for registering, paying for services and even checking clinical test results using a mobile device.

Alipay is also planning to integrate EMR functionality into its platform. With Alipay's popularity (>300 mn users including >100 mn mobile users), there is a good chance it could leapfrog to the forefront of the digital health game in China.
Alipay is not alone: Other top players such as China Mobile - which has almost 800 mn subscribers - are also looking into the digital health opportunity.
