Chinese citizens are leaving their homes in search of the best care available, or care that they desperately need. Some 483,000 people travelled outbound from China for healthcare in 2015. These medical travellers spent USD6.3 billion on treatment and a further USD3.4 billion on travel and accommodation.

08-Feb-17 A coalition of 67 organisations made up of travel companies and medical centres in Taiwan have come together to offer their services to travellers seeking medical treatment overseas. These packages tend to be expensive and aimed at high-end tourists from China. 07-Nov-16 Despite a decline in Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan, the medical tourism industry has enjoyed steady growth, thanks to visitors from Europe, North America, Hong Kong and Macau. The number of visitors and the output of the industry have been growing steadily. From 2008 to last year, 63 medical institutions saw the foreign patients increase from 68,000 to 300,000. 08-Nov-16 An MOU on corneal transplant cooperation and training between the National Eye Bank of Taiwan and SightLife has brought Taiwan a step closer to regional leadership in the field. Under the five-year pact, which makes Taiwan SightLife's the second partner in Asia, the US-based nonprofit will provide the latest corneal transplant training and assist NEBT in gaining international accreditation.
