Lithuanian hospital warns of dangers of cosmetic surgery abroad

In Jan-17, Kardiolita Hospital in Lithuania put out a statement warning that, from a medical perspective, the idea of cosmetic surgery abroad being marketed as part of a ‘package deal’ for those wanting to have surgery and visit another county is a ‘huge misconception’.

‘Best knee surgery in Mexico’ runs one online package advertisement. Another agency offering medical packages in Thailand, proclaims: “A country which provides one-stop medical solutions for all your problems.”

But are they selling the dream too hard? Some medics and hospitals offering treatment internationally are concerned that promoting medical treatment as part of a holiday package is misleading – and possibly dangerous.
